Summary

Constructing the Preconditions for Empowerment of Followers

Current society pays a great attention to leadership; however, recently we see growing research interest in followership. Often the follower is portrayed as a complement to the leader. However, the follower has a distinct and unique role. Kellerman notes, „the gap between leaders and followers is closing” and due to many reasons as: the changing point of view about leader‘s role and the meaning of leadership, challenges to hierarchical structures in present society. The role of the follower is considered to be of equal importance to leaders; however, the power dimension has received little attention. This power is considered to be an influential factor for society's structure and people relationships. Empowerment is dealing with challenging power regimes and structures with critical thinking. Reconstructed power dimensions enable one to notice non-linear causality between leader and follower: “Good followers can deliver exceptional results with average leaders’’
