Summary

Some remarks on Plotinian logos: its processional and hermeneutical meanings

This paper explores the processional and hermeneutical meanings of logos according to Plotinus’ Enneads. plotinus recaptures the stoic distinction between an uttered logos and an internal logos, but adapts it to a neoplatonic context. The first one is related to the logos found in the hypostasis of the soul; the second is related to the logos of intellect, i.e. to the realm of the intelligible. logos is both the ensemble of logoi that ensures the possibility of reasoning, and the productive and organizing principle of the sensible world. Therefore, the logos of the soul is the interpreter of the logos found in the intellect.

Key Words: Plotinus, neoplatonism, logos, procession, hermeneutics, metaphysics.
