Returning History: Lithuanian Rebirth with History Painting
In the article the historical art of the Lithuanian revival period (1986-1991) is analyzed in detail. It is a fractured stage during which the evaluation of Lithuania’s history changed. the article also touches on the works of art in this genre. Stirring up the Soviet ideology, artists developed an important ideological con- tent of Lithuanian history. They gradually moved to demonstrated themes, Lithuanian symbols, and heraldry. in the evolution of the historical genre itself, it is also a significant stage for providing unexpected connections such as history and surrealism, history and abstraction, history and postmodern playfulness. It has opened new possibilities for the treatment of history by activating an individual and personal relationship with an historical event.
